When I was still working a full-time job and setting up my business in my spare time, quite a few things didn’t go my way.
One day I’d scheduled a meeting with a very promising looking client after work. I’d met them at a business networking event and they were very interested in my services. In fact, you could say it was the first meeting I’d ever had with a prospect.
I was very excited at work that day! However, about an hour before I was due to leave, my boss had an urgent problem that he needed my help with. Unfortunately this meant that I ended up being about 20 minutes late for the meeting with the prospect (their mobile phone wasn’t working either so I couldn’t get hold of them!).
As you can imagine, this didn’t look good and I didn’t end up working with that particular client.
Moral of the story? Things won’t always go your way. I’ll bet if you ask ANY business owner if things ALWAYS went their way when they were setting up their business, NONE of them would say ‘yes’.
The key to success is your reaction to any setbacks that come your way.
Do you give up and think it’s something that only happens to you? Do you think ‘it’s not meant to be’?
Or do you get up again, dust yourself off, and go find that next client?
