The Law Of Attraction – Will It Work For You?

A very popular topic in the media of late is the ‘Law of Attraction’ or ‘The Secret’. Is it for real or just mumbo jumbo?

Recently I was listening to entrepreneur Sandy Forster describe how she went from being a single mother with $100,000 in debt – to earning $1.5 million per year.

Previously, life was a struggle. She felt that she’d been born to be rich and live a life of luxury, but it just wasn’t happening for her. She tried investing in shares, and some other investment schemes. Nothing worked, and she kept losing money.

She then discovered self help or personal development and learnt about mindset. She realised that mindset is of number one importance if you’re ever going to be successful. What does mindset mean? Well, an example she gave was that her self image was that of a poor person who couldn’t afford to buy her daughter new clothes. That may have been the truth of the situation at the time, but as long as her self image remained in that state, she wasn’t going anywhere fast because she was attracting more of the same.

To change her mindset, she repeated hundreds of times per day: ‘I am a debt-free millionaire’, ‘I am a debt-free millionaire’. Note, she didn’t say ‘I am going to be a debt free millionaire’. She used the present tense. I’m sure she visualized a life of luxury too – the house, the car, international travel, being able to provide for her young family. Of course, at first she felt ridiculous, but over time, she stuck with it and little by little she changed her self image into one of a prosperous, successful person, living her dreams.

Of course, you can repeat all the affirmations and mantras you like, but if you fail to ACT on your hopes and dreams, and think that the universe is just going to deliver, you’re in for disappointment. Sandy continued to take action, investing her time and effort, building a business. She took chances, faced her fears, made sacrifices, put in the hard work. Her self belief attracted success. That’s how she became successful. Positive mindset, self belief and action combined.

How can you apply this to your Virtual Assistant business or any other business for that matter? How can you apply this to ANY dream or goal that you have?

I’d be interested to hear your thoughts and experiences on the Law Of Attraction in the real world.

I also heard Sandy and was very impressed and touched with her presentation. The things she said about mindset reminded me of God’s promises to Abram.

Abram had hopes and dreams too……… Faith accomplishes our dreams.

Abram had a mindset on God’s promises. God said to Abram, ” …………..calling those things that be not as though they were. Or from a different translation ………………….“and calls into being that which does not exist.” Romans 4:17

I believe this can be difficult for many of us to accomplish and even harder for many to understand but according to biblical history it works.

Thank you Liza for sharing this article on, “The Law Of Attraction – Will It Work For You? I am very impressed with your writings.

Lisa, I think you’ve said it all here, succinctly and well! Though the Law of Attraction sounds simple, it’s really just part of the campaign … and the other part is plain old work!

I started reading this material because I work with students who have a disability and displaced workers. My job is to help them find employment or connect them with resources to start a business. I have done this for well over ten years. In that time I have noticed that the only difference between those who are successful and those who are not is attitude. When individuals come to my office many of them tell me it is not possible for them to succeed. Others, tell me they are sure they can get a job or start a business. They are eager and just want to know how to get started. I always tell both groups they are 100% correct. If you believe you can’t, you can’t. If you believe you can, nothing will stop you.

There is an old quotation, “when the student is ready, the teacher will appear.” As I watch my cleints, I am always amazed how those who have an attitude of success or work to improve their attitude manage to draw the people and the information they need to them when they are mentally ready to succeed.

    Good stuff. Lisa

    Lisa,

Your article on “the Law of Attraction” was great. Everyday I tell myself that I am going to be successful in my business. By doing this I am able to overcome all types of rejections and other negative things that come into play. “If you believe it, you can achieve it”. The words that come out of your mouth should be positive and great things will happen for you.

@ Jackie, faith is certainly a very powerful thing.

@ Mary, you got it: plain old work is an essential ingredient to the mix.

@ Jim, self belief really does affect the choices we make in life. If you don’t believe in yourself, who will? If I hadn’t believed in myself, I’d still be working for someone else today.

@ Jaoma, I went to an NLP course a couple of years ago about communication skills and found it fascinating.

@ Delita, again, it’s back to self belief and faith!

    Thanks for your comments!

This was a timely subject. I save all of the emails you send and re read them randomly. I recently read about the law of attraction somewhere else and ordered the book “The secret” because I “thought” I could use the help. Well, imagine my surprise that during my random review, I came upon this posting! See I have encountered many difficulties recently both professional & personal and my attitude definately could use an overhaul! I guess the universe is trying to tell me something. Thanks for passing on the message!

Hi Sheryl, I don’t have ‘The Secret’ book yet, but I’ve watched it on TV – it’s a great motivator and reminder!
