I’m Back!

By July 8, 2009 General 36 Comments

Apologies for the lengthy absence on my blog. I’ve had a variety of health issues to deal with of late. First of all, I’ve had a lower back problem which saw me out of action for a full week, not able to walk! I’d been seeing an osteopath for a while for this ongoing issue, but the last time I went to see him, it actually got worse.

So now I’m seeing a physio and I’m feeling a lot better. Everyone has a different experience to tell re: physios, osteopaths etc. Physios seem to have a more holistic approach to the problem and I’ve been given a very specific set of exercises to do to prevent this happening again. I already have a good office chair with lumbar support so that’s one less thing to worry about.

Then once I’d got the back issue out of the way, I promptly came down with a nasty cold which turned into a chest infection! I ended up with a barking cough which sounded like a seal. Perhaps a bout of ‘seal flu’ then?

As you can imagine, when you’re running your own business you can’t afford to get sick! Even though I outsource some of my work, I’m still the front-end of my business, and with that comes additional work and responsibilities. I’m still trying to get on top of things such as work, emails and paperwork while still having a life!

I’m glad to say that I feel almost 100% again healthwise, so I’m sure I’ll be on top of it all soon!

Stay tuned for further posts from me. In the meantime, feel welcome to comment here or email me with any questions that you have about becoming a Virtual Assistant or being a Virtual Assistant. I can add these to my list of things to blog about….!

    Poor Lisa

Feel for you regarding your ‘back’ problem especially. I can quite honestly say that sitting all day at a computer chair gives me awful backache – and I never had one before. Computer chairs are the culprits I think. Perhaps we need to design a really comfortable one! Glad to see that you’re better now and also over the ‘flu. Kind regards, Patricia

  • Hello, Lisa

I was getting worried about you. I missed the newsletter alot. However, Iam very
glad to know that you are feeling and doing better. Its a bummer being sick.

Be Blessed and still take it slow and ease back into th swing of things-don’t go to fast. (smile)

Welcome back Lisa, I hope you are feeling much better. I get chest infections myself so I know how debilitating they can be!

I had noticed something lacking in my post box :-)

Definitely need some input from you, despite all the advice and marketing strategies I still haven’t found the key to unlocking the clients mindset on spending on the services of a VA?!

One last thing, don’t get seen ‘clapping’ on your own! It will only confirm their suspicions…. ha ha!

    Did you miss us? ;-)

    Lisa,
So glad you’re back, been wondering if you were on an extended vacation. No fun being sick so bet you wish you’d had been on that vacation right? Hope you are truly doing better or else you’ll get even more run down this time around.

    Hi Lisa,

Glad you are feeling much better now!

Sure, it’s harder to be sick when you have your own business…

Always take care of yourself, body, mind and soul! I’m sure you don’t need me to tell you, but make time for yourself and even treat yourself regularly; you deserve that, with all the great job you do.

    Best,

    Alessandra

    Greetings Lisa,

Sorry to hear you weren’t feeling well, but glad to know you’re on the road to recovery. You were missed.
Still haven’t gotten to where I’d like to be with the business, but because of you and your ‘tips’, I am further along than I would have been trying to go it alone.

    Take care and blessings

    Hi Lisa:

I’m glad you are feeling almost 100% well again. I understand very well about the back problem. I have had a terrible lower back problem for years too, and there was a time when I was unable to walk (I could walk around the house but with a badly bent back) for three days. I tell people pain for me is the rule; when I am pain free, that’s the exception. I don’t go to the doctor, etc. for my back anymore, as I have learned to control the pain to agreat extent using ice (excellent with a good half hour appication with ice in a plastic bag placed directly on the back); as well as pain relief gels and creams, etc.

Maybe you could try these sometimes and see if they work for you, thus saving your self high medical bills.

I look forward to receiving youe e-mails.

    Regards

    Hi Lisa

I know somewhat of your health conditions, I’ve had 3 disc in my cervical spine removed and fused together, this was in 2001, but since, it seem to have amplified other ailments, like arthritis but I live with them. I’m so much better now, God has raised me up to the point that I am pursuing my own business.

Sometimes life slows down, to barely a crawl for me, bad weather, cold, rain, wet, and overcast days are not the best for me. I fight the Good Fight of Faith!

I am particular about my health, and I work on doing the right things to stay healthy.

I’m glad you’re back with us. Stay well!

  • Ezra Shua says:

    Hi Lisa,

I most say I missed you. But now am glad to have you back.

I pray that the good Lord will keep you healthy from now on. Amen!

It is true that health is wealth. Some time we overwork ourselves and forget about rest which is most important. Having good sleep atlest 6 hours a day, eat healthy food, stay in good environment and regular exercise is essential.

Above all, alway be happy and never give chance to worry.

    Thank you.

  • Pamela says:

    Hi Lisa,
Sorry to hear of your health woes but glad you’re back. I’ve missed your words of wisdom! I’ve been in touch with you regarding entering the virtual assistant industry by initially working at home. I am a solo mum and have worked at home and off site for over the past ten years since my twins were born but am seeking to further establish my home business to enable extra flexibility with my work and home life as my children get older and move into secondary school. I am enrolling in the NEIS program for support with this move and need to do a business plan for my virtual assistant business. It’s the first time I have had to do a business plan and I am really struggling with this. I’ve downloaded your rates sheet from You Tube and this has been a great help but I need assistance with completing the rest of the plan. Would you be able to give me some hints or direct me to relevant sources regarding writing a business plan, ie expected goals, income, client base for the virual assistant industry. I am in the process of establishing a business directory database for my area (Warrnambool and surrounds) to source suitable clients for my business and would expect to offer transcription, data entry and word processing services on or off site. I have advertised in the local paper recently but failed to receive any response.
On another tangent, I would love to pick your brains re the work you do with internet marketing as I hold a great interest in this area. If at all possible, I would like to meet with you some time soon to talk about both the VA and IM industries???
Look forward to hearing from you Lisa
    Kind regards, Pamela

  • Hi Lisa,

Glad to hear that you’re up and running again, so to speak. I can certainly sympathise with the lower back problem. I had a fall from my friend’s horse a few months ago which aggravated a previous back problem. It brought it home to me just how different working for yourself is as against working in the corporate world. No sick pay, you have to work or lose clients. Yes, very painful. As regards the dreaded cold, I can feel one coming on (thanks to my dear husband passing on his germs) but I’m going to use some positive thinking and “disappear” it.

    Keep up the good work

    Margaret

Good to hear you’re feeling better, though hearing you ‘Bark like a Seal’ might’ve been entertaining! ;o)

Acupuncture is what finally helped me after a Serious whiplash injury…everything else was a waste of money and time.
[You DO know there's really NO 'Puncture' involved, the hair like 'needles' are inserted into pores of the skin...Quite painless!]

I am referring Vicki Ronan [who is a 'Super' Executive Assistant] to you as she wants to learn about ‘Breaking Free’ by becoming a VA. I’m Certain you’ll steer her in the right direction. Thank you

    Warmest regards
    Jim

    Hello Lisa:

Sorry to hear about your woes. The good thing is that you are on the mend. Glad to have you back with us.

Yes, running your own virtual assistant business is a challenge in and of itself. Add an unexpected illness into the mix, and it can truly became a juggle. What a good idea to have outsources available or even other fellow VAs set up in advance as a emergency contingency plan.

  • Lisa,

Hope you’re better soon…missed your blog.

  • Mandu Usoro says:

    Lisa,
So glad that you are healing well. I can honestly say that this happened to me as well, found out I had a herniated disk and am still healing from this, but everyday it gets better. Thinking about taking the plunge still for a virtual assistant business, but was wondering if you had any suggestions of websites(do it yourself), VA Web Designers/Templates and any suggestion as well for a newbie, who is about ready to take another step towards my goals of having a VA business/website, etc.
Can’t wait to hear what you have to offer and keep those inspirations coming.

  • Glad to hear you are over the worst now, suffer with sciatica so understand exactly what you have been through.

Business is close to being ready to market, just couple of things to sort on site ie contact page, testimonials from ex employers/managers and I will be on the next step.

The thing I am most pleased with to date is that I completed my site myself!! Would welcome comments.
